Beth Kreitl (She/her) | ​Co-founder & executive dIRECTOR, We blooM

Beth Kreitl is passionate about uplifting communities through training, education and access. At her core, she believes communities can be empowered when individuals harness their own authentic power. As such she works with individuals through her counseling private practice, and serves the broader local and global community as co-founder and leader of We Bloom. For as long as she can remember Beth has been drawn and committed to  psychology, spirituality, self-growth, and deeply connecting. She wove these interests into her life from the time she was a child, and has seen the fruits of pursing a journey that focuses on interior freedom alongside outer purpose. Along the way she has been fortunate to pursue various experiences, education, and certifications. She worked in the corporate, higher ed and nonprofit sectors. Most recently she served as Co-Director of Swim for Life Vietnam. Prior to that she served as Executive Director of Career Services at Seattle University following her time at Indiana University where she was the Associate Director of Student Services. Beth also teaches yoga and facilitates workshops and retreats.  She earned her B.A. in French and International Business at High Point University and her M.S./Ed.S. in School and
​Counseling Psychology at Indiana University. She is a licensed mental health counselor, as well as a licensed teacher of swimming and water safety. 


Adam Teal (He/Him) | Recovery CafÉ Program MAnager

Adam Teal is a person who is passionate about helping people in every sense of the word. Spending the last several years in the traditional addiction’s treatment setting, Recovery Café Indy is a breath of fresh air. Adam strives to meet everyone where they’re at and makes sure every voice is heard. Adam is very passionate about recovery of all paths.  He is also a current social work major and has been playing guitar since he was 10 years old. Adam also loves to cook and is a big fan of collecting records.

ALphonso Bailey (HE/HIM) | CafÉ Manager

Alphonso Bailey is the founder and Executive Director of Down But Not Out, Inc. He had everything going for him; a good family and a football scholarship to Kentucky State University. A series of poor choices landed him in prison and took away all of his freedoms, hopes and dreams! Determined to turn his life around, Alphonso focused on his faith. Through determination, self-discipline and the right attitude, he experienced a new freedom! The sport of boxing coupled with his intense desire to grow emotionally and spiritually, freed him from a life of crime and despair. Alphonso, with the help of the Lord, came to understand true freedom. Now he’s sharing and teaching that same sense of freedom to others!

Angela Appleberry (SHE/Her) | CafÉ MANAGER

Angela (Angie) Appleberry, is a semi-retired, 20+ year educator and artist.  Angie attended a  Trauma-Informed Workshop at her worship assembly last year and prayerfully made the decision to complete the BIPOC training, through We Bloom, for Recovery Coach.  She took the recommendation of a classmate to contact Beth Kreitl at Recovery Cafe for possible employment after the training and is currently employed as one of the Cafe Managers, with anticipation of receiving her Recovery Coach Certification by February or March of this year. Angie’s passion in life has been to be used by God as a vessel for others in local and international communities in realizing their creative potential!

Caroline graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology in May of 2020. Upon graduation, she has further continued her work with Recovery Café Indy and expand upon her work with We Bloom. Caroline is passionate about community improvement and relationship building. In her role at the Café, she enjoys building connections with interns, volunteers & community partners around Indianapolis. She loves dogs, baking, spending time with friends and family, the movie La La Land, the color yellow, and chickens. 

Christina Rodriguez (SHE/HER) | Resource Specialist

Christina Rodriguez is our Resource Specialist and oversees the Member Financial Assistance program for Recovery Cafe Indy. Christina was born and raised in Indy, is mother of 3 girls who are her complete world. She loves to help others as it's her passion. Christina will go out of her way to make sure Members are provided for, from connecting them to the closest tire shop or food pantry, she will find a way to make sure that no one leaves the Cafe empty handed. Christina is bilingual in Spanish and has 28 years of administration work, including clinical management and runs her own catering business.

For Members interested in getting connected with resources, Christina's walk in hours at the Cafe are Wednesdays from 1pm-5pm, and Thursday by appointment only.

Debbie Satterfield (She/her) | Senior CafÉ Manager

Debbie is the Senior Cafe Manager at Recovery Cafe Indy. She is in long term recovery and her passion is to help anyone with the desire to do something different. What she LOVES about the Recovery Cafe is that all manifestation of the recovering person is welcome. As we believe everyone is recovering from something!

DEja Sanders (SHE/HER) | Discovery CAFÉ Indy Program MANAGER

Deja Sanders is the Discovery Café Indy Program Manager. Her passion for working with youth started when she was the designated babysitter of her three younger siblings, who were adopted. Growing up near the system and seeing the traumatic influence it had on her and her siblings, she knew her calling was to be in a helping profession. In 2019, Deja graduated from IUPUI with a bachelor's degree in Social Work. After graduation, she worked for various youth serving organizations, such as the Department of Child Services, Meridian Health Services and Community Health Network. These organizations focused on youth experiencing trauma, menta health and severe behavioral health issues. This population prompted Deja to higher education. In 2021, Deja obtained her master’s degree in Social Work. Her future career goals include becoming a licensed trauma therapist for youth and eventually open her own community center. She has lived both professional and educational experiences that will help bring creative ideas to Discovery Café Indy and ensure that the guiding principles are followed. Fun facts about Deja: her favorite color is yellow; she loves sunflowers and is obsessed with ALL things Starbucks.

Chloe Etgen (She/HER) | Social Media & marketing INTERN

Chloe is a junior at the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI studying Visual Communications. She has previously volunteered with other nonprofit organizations but is excited to work on connecting the community though social media. She is currently working at Starbucks for the morning shift, going to school full time, and enjoying time at the Cafe. Chloe loves finding new recipes to cook, and baking for any event. Her hobbies include taking pictures of her cat, traveling and scuba diving.

Mya is an intern earning her master’s in Social Work at IUPUI. She has a background in psychology from Indiana University. Mya is passionate about advocating for mental health and substance use awareness. She believes kindness and empathy are the most important things in life. Mya loves taking walks, going to coffee shops, and spending time with family, friends, and her fluffy dog.

Rhiannon currently attends Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) as a senior majoring in Social Work, which led her to the Café. With previous experience volunteering at nonprofit organizations centered around communities experiencing homelessness and addictions, she thrives to treat everyone with kindness and have fun while doing it. Rhiannon is passionate about community building and growth and loves to spend time at a concert with friends or with her cat, Ziggy.

​Tiffany Richardson is our Director of Recovery Cafe Catalyst Programs. She is in long-term recovery and loves to serve her community. She has a passion for recovery and being a part of changing lives. Since 2014, Tiffany has been employed within the recovery community.  She has four children who also have experience in community mental health. Recovery Cafe serves as a place to fulfill her purpose and to guide and encourage others through love and compassion.

Leslie Kelly

Leslie’s interest in mental health emerged in high school when she joined an Explorer Post focused on mental health careers and began volunteering at the former Central State Hospital in Indianapolis. Those early experiences, combined with her passion for social justice issues, led Leslie to Ball State University where she earned a Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) degree in 1982. After a decade of working with low income youth and families Leslie completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis in 1997. In 2015, she was certified as an Offender Workforce Development Specialist through the National Institute of Justice. Leslie’s career has included direct service and program management positions with at-risk populations in a variety of non-profit agencies in Indianapolis. Practice areas have included youth mentoring, child welfare, reentry, and homelessness. Immediately prior to joining the Horizon House staff, Leslie managed a program that provided employment and housing services to sex offenders re-entering the community on parole. Since 2008, Leslie has served as the Director of Programs for Horizon House, a nonprofit, secular day center offering comprehensive day services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Leslie was drawn to Horizon House by the agency’s core value of extending hospitality to every client, and treating each person with dignity and respect.  In addition to basic day services, street outreach, case management, employment and housing services, Horizon House hosts an onsite health center offering integrated medical and mental health care provided by Eskenazi Health/Midtown.  Leslie is responsible for oversight and strategic direction of programming at Horizon House.  Under her leadership, Horizon House programs have reached their highest level of service, professionalism and outcomes, including implementation of one of the largest Homeless Prevention Rapid Rehousing grants in Indianapolis, leadership in the coordination of city-wide street outreach services and the launch of a new housing support project in collaboration with the City of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Housing Agency (IHA).

Spencer Medcalf

Spencer is a person in long term recovery from eating, substance use, and mental health disorders. Spencer became passionate about recovery after his own struggles and now recovery from them. Spencer began his career in March 2018 at a small nonprofit in downtown Indianapolis working with re-entry and criminal justice population. Spencer currently works for IU Health as a Recovery Coach at the Virtual Care Behavioral Health Hub. It is a centralized hub based in Indianapolis that provides Recovery Coaches, Masters level therapist, and psychiatric providers to engage with patients across the state throughout the IU Health system. Spencer is a Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach Level 2 (CAPRC2) and a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist (MATS).  He is also currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in Psychology at Ivy Tech Community College.

Shaneka Pedersen

Shaneka Pedersen, is a Senior Mortgage Loan Originator with Elements Financial. She is from Champaign, IL and has lived in Indianapolis since 2005. Shaneka graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish.  She has served as long term board member for a long-standing non-profit on the near westside, serving as Resource Development Chair, Secretary, Treasurer over her 9 year tenure. She hopes to utilize her financial background to help with the financial aspect of recovery our clients face.
 
Shaneka’s interest in Recovery Café is based on familial connections of recovery from homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse. She is thrilled to be a part of the Advisory Committee and is looking forward to becoming more involved with recovery efforts in the Indianapolis area. Shaneka, lives north of downtown and is married with two small children. She enjoys all things Harry Potter, reading, vacationing and enjoying sporting events.

Debbie Satterfield

Debbie Satterfield is an advisory committee member of Recovery Café Indy.  She has been employed with Masters Touch Home Health Services for the last 7 years, and also a person in long term recovery.  Debbie is the founding director of The House of Ruth and Naomi Inc.  This organization assists women’s re-entry from prison back into society.  Debbie has a passion for service where her talents align to the need.  She loves to spend time with my family and friends.

Heather Rodriguez

Heather Rodriguez is the Manager of Recovery Community Development with Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition (IAIC), which consists of engaging with individuals, organizations, and communities throughout the state while assisting with the building of collaborative relationships that support recovery. A primary focus of Heather’s role with IAIC is to develop Recovery Community Organizations (RCO) or Recovery Community Centers (RCC). Heather is also the Project Manager of the Indiana Recovery Network (IRN), a network that seeks to connect individuals and recovery organizations within the state of Indiana to align services, provide supports, and fill in the gaps of recovery services. Heather is a mother and a member of the recovery community. If you would like any additional information regarding RCO’S, RCC’S, or the IRN please email Heather at hrodriguez@mhai.net.
