Beth Kreitl is passionate about uplifting communities through training, education and access. At her core, she believes communities can be empowered when individuals harness their own authentic power. As such she works with individuals through her counseling private practice, and serves the broader local and global community as co-founder and leader of We Bloom. For as long as she can remember Beth has been drawn and committed to  psychology, spirituality, self-growth, and deeply connecting. She wove these interests into her life from the time she was a child, and has seen the fruits of pursing a journey that focuses on interior freedom alongside outer purpose. Along the way she has been fortunate to pursue various experiences, education, and certifications. She worked in the corporate, higher ed and nonprofit sectors. Most recently she served as Co-Director of Swim for Life Vietnam. Prior to that she served as Executive Director of Career Services at Seattle University following her time at Indiana University where she was the Associate Director of Student Services. Beth also teaches yoga, and facilitates workshops and retreats.  She earned her B.A. in French and International Business at High Point University and her M.S./Ed.S. in School and Counseling Psychology at Indiana University. She is a licensed mental health counselor, as well as a licensed teacher of swimming and water safety.

Mecca is a disabled Army Veteran and holds a master’s degree in Management and Leadership from Western Governor’s University.  Prior to joining the We Bloom family, Mecca has volunteered and worked with several Nonprofit organizations where she cultivated her skills in the areas of leadership, management, program development, program implementation, community relationship and engagement.   Mecca's passion is to embrace, empower and elevate individuals and communities to their full potential allowing everyone to thrive. Mecca enjoys her family and traveling.

Aubre Jean | pRogram manager

Aubre is a graduate from Indiana University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation and Resource Management. Aubre’s family history of addiction, mental illness, and poverty, fueled her strong desire to be independent, successful, healthy, and to be of service to those in need. Her career spans from hosting benefit concerts to support hunger relief with Indiana University, educating youth in an outdoor setting, and working with at-risk youth. Prior to joining the Recovery Café Indy team, Aubre acquired 7 years of direct services and 3 years in leadership mentoring homeless youth and young adults. Aubre states her personal and professional experiences helped her to develop a deep level of compassion, acceptance, and resilience that she carries with her throughout her life. Aubre's desires to empower others to pursue their passions, create meaningful and productive lives, and work towards a life of fulfillment through exposure to opportunities that reignite passion and aligns with one’s purpose. Aubre is an outdoor enthusiast, musician, and adventurer. She values having a work life balance that enables her to help others, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle for herself. 

Heidi Wendell | ​CafÉ Manager

Heidi is a café manager at Recovery Café Indy and has been with RCI since November 2021. She is a born and raised Hoosier, and has been in the Indianapolis area for about 20 years now. Heidi is a certified Community Health Worker and is currently doing an apprenticeship with ASPIN and found out about RCI through this program. She was drawn to Recovery Café because she is on her own recovery journey, and felt as though she could relate to members. She looks forward to leading recovery circles everyday and being able to support members in any way she can. Heidi loves RCI because it is such an important source of community for herself and many others. She admires the love that is shown by everyone and the fact that the café feels like family. Outside of work, Heidi enjoys bowling, roller skating, spending time outdoors, and with family.

Caroline graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology in May of 2020. Upon graduation, she has further continued her work with Recovery Café Indy and expand upon her work with We Bloom. Caroline is passionate about community improvement and relationship building. In her role at the Café, she enjoys building connections with interns, volunteers & community partners around Indianapolis. She loves dogs, baking, spending time with friends and family, the movie La La Land, the color yellow, and chickens. 


Whitney Wilson | Social MEdia and marketing intern

Whitney is the social media and marketing intern for this semester. She is a senior at the University of Indianapolis studying Public Relations and Graphic Design. She has created and implemented several public relations campaigns for nonprofits in the past. Whitney is passionate about her community and is always finding new ways to get involved. She looks forward to interacting and engaging with the members of the Café. Outside of school, you can find Whitney exploring Indianapolis, crocheting, or spending time with friends and family. 


Kevin ESpirito | Radical Hospitality host

Kevin is the co-founder of We Bloom, the parent organization of the Recovery Cafe. Kevin is a peer recovery coach that believes everyone is born with a light and a love capable of anything they desire. He also believes all communities have knowledge and leadership, but may just need aid in connecting to resources and opportunities. Kevin is positive and always brings a sense of fun and humor to everyone entering through the doors of the cafe. He enjoys his individual recovery and spiritual journey, as well as cooking and traveling. Kevin says that his latest and greatest achievement is winning the chicken sandwich cook-off at Recovery Cafe Indy.

Natalie Frank | Resource Specialist

Natalie's mission is to inspire a desire for change. She is the Resource Specialist at Recovery Cafe Indy We Bloom who is currently in the process of attaining her Community Health Worker certification, as well as her Peer Recovery Coach certification. Natalie is very passionate about her role within the cafe as well as fulfilling her purpose inside and outside the cafe. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, yoga, aromatherapy, working out, swimming, hiking, gardening, and practically anything outdoors. She loves trying new things and is always ready to take action in helping and assisting individuals as well as the community. With Natalie's compassion, dedication, understanding, positivity and lived experience in recovery, she shows up each day ready to apply her knowledge on how to help others move forward in their recovery.

Leslie Kelly

Leslie’s interest in mental health emerged in high school when she joined an Explorer Post focused on mental health careers and began volunteering at the former Central State Hospital in Indianapolis. Those early experiences, combined with her passion for social justice issues, led Leslie to Ball State University where she earned a Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) degree in 1982. After a decade of working with low income youth and families Leslie completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis in 1997. In 2015, she was certified as an Offender Workforce Development Specialist through the National Institute of Justice. Leslie’s career has included direct service and program management positions with at-risk populations in a variety of non-profit agencies in Indianapolis. Practice areas have included youth mentoring, child welfare, reentry, and homelessness. Immediately prior to joining the Horizon House staff, Leslie managed a program that provided employment and housing services to sex offenders re-entering the community on parole. Since 2008, Leslie has served as the Director of Programs for Horizon House, a nonprofit, secular day center offering comprehensive day services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Leslie was drawn to Horizon House by the agency’s core value of extending hospitality to every client, and treating each person with dignity and respect.  In addition to basic day services, street outreach, case management, employment and housing services, Horizon House hosts an onsite health center offering integrated medical and mental health care provided by Eskenazi Health/Midtown.  Leslie is responsible for oversight and strategic direction of programming at Horizon House.  Under her leadership, Horizon House programs have reached their highest level of service, professionalism and outcomes, including implementation of one of the largest Homeless Prevention Rapid Rehousing grants in Indianapolis, leadership in the coordination of city-wide street outreach services and the launch of a new housing support project in collaboration with the City of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Housing Agency (IHA).

Spencer Medcalf

Spencer is a person in long term recovery from eating, substance use, and mental health disorders. Spencer became passionate about recovery after his own struggles and now recovery from them. Spencer began his career in March 2018 at a small nonprofit in downtown Indianapolis working with re-entry and criminal justice population. Spencer currently works for IU Health as a Recovery Coach at the Virtual Care Behavioral Health Hub. It is a centralized hub based in Indianapolis that provides Recovery Coaches, Masters level therapist, and psychiatric providers to engage with patients across the state throughout the IU Health system. Spencer is a Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach Level 2 (CAPRC2) and a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist (MATS).  He is also currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in Psychology at Ivy Tech Community College.

Shaneka Pedersen

Shaneka Pedersen, is a Senior Mortgage Loan Originator with Elements Financial. She is from Champaign, IL and has lived in Indianapolis since 2005. Shaneka graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish.  She has served as long term board member for a long-standing non-profit on the near westside, serving as Resource Development Chair, Secretary, Treasurer over her 9 year tenure. She hopes to utilize her financial background to help with the financial aspect of recovery our clients face.
 
Shaneka’s interest in Recovery Café is based on familial connections of recovery from homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse. She is thrilled to be a part of the Advisory Committee and is looking forward to becoming more involved with recovery efforts in the Indianapolis area. Shaneka, lives north of downtown and is married with two small children. She enjoys all things Harry Potter, reading, vacationing and enjoying sporting events.

Debbie Satterfield

Debbie Satterfield is an advisory committee member of Recovery Café Indy.  She has been employed with Masters Touch Home Health Services for the last 7 years, and also a person in long term recovery.  Debbie is the founding director of The House of Ruth and Naomi Inc.  This organization assists women’s re-entry from prison back into society.  Debbie has a passion for service where her talents align to the need.  She loves to spend time with my family and friends.

Heather Rodriguez

Heather Rodriguez is the Manager of Recovery Community Development with Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition (IAIC), which consists of engaging with individuals, organizations, and communities throughout the state while assisting with the building of collaborative relationships that support recovery. A primary focus of Heather’s role with IAIC is to develop Recovery Community Organizations (RCO) or Recovery Community Centers (RCC). Heather is also the Project Manager of the Indiana Recovery Network (IRN), a network that seeks to connect individuals and recovery organizations within the state of Indiana to align services, provide supports, and fill in the gaps of recovery services.
